BACON, HAM AND HOCKS PEA SOUP
There's no better "stick to the ribs" soup for the soul than split pea soup that's loaded up with smoked Ham, Ham Hocks and Bacon.THE INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED: For this recipe we used:
- 1lb. washed and picked Green Split Peas
- 2 Smoked Ham Hocks
- 2lb. Smoked Ham (or use a ham of your choice)
- About 3/4lb. of Bacon
- 8 cups Chicken Broth
- 1 medium Onion
- 4-6 cloves minced Garlic
- Wash and pick the peas.
- Saute the onions and garlic is a Tbl. or two of oil
- Add the Smoked Ham Hocks
- Add some SPG
- Add the 8 cups Chicken Stock or Broth
- Bring to a slow Simmer for about 15 minutes
- Add 1lb. of Green Split Peas
- Slow Simmer for about 2 hours or until the peas become tender, and thicken
- Remove Hocks, cut off the tender meat and return the meat to the Pot
- Shop and add the bacon
- Chop and add about 2lb. of bite sized Ham
- Bring to simmer briefly and then serve.
